Breaking Stereotypes: Engineering Degrees Need More Women.

The "Mujer e Ingeniería" project was born out of the Academy's concern about the shortage of women in the field of engineering and technology, with the implicit waste of its creative potential, key to innovation and the development of our companies and society in general .

The Real Academia de Ingeniería has considered a priority to coordinate a strategic action to dissolve the "gender gap" in engineering.

With this step forward seeks to give visibility to engineering professionals and help them jump from their "glass ceiling."

The aim is to motivate and interest girls and teenagers by promoting vocations in STEM studies in a way that favours the incorporation of more women to the different professional specialities related to the engineering and the development of their career to positions of responsibility. In this sense, it is important to emphasize the fact that in girls’ schools the percentage of female students who join technical courses is much higher than in the mixed school, which has a lot to do with the breaking of stereotypes.

The project is supported by the European Social Fund, Comunidad de Madrid, Instituto de la Mujer, Universidad Carlos III, Universidad Politécnica de Madrid, Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers, HP, Indra, Telefónica, Fundación Universidad Empresa, Fundación Caja de Ingenieros, Gas Natural Fenosa, Edp Renóvaveis, Vodafone, Foundation Pro Rebus Academiae, Ejecutivas & Consejeras and BHI Comunicación.
