Repensar a Sala de Aula, de Jaume Camps

Dr. Jaume Camps Bansell (Universitat Internacional de Catalunya, Barcelona) has just published in Quadrante this new book on the influence of the variable gender in education.

Are gender issues in education really important? Why do some schools separate girls and boys? Has the mixed school managed the inequalities between the sexes? This book presents gender issues at school from various fields, focusing in particular on the two main organizational modalities: coeducation and one-sex school. After a brief historical exposition of the evolution of the school, the author analyzes the paradoxes of mixed education with the self-criticism of women and men who have already participated in this modality. It also explores the socializing and educational transcendence of coeducational and single sex education situations, from a psychosocial perspective. And it gathers the opinions of students who studied in both models, as a result of numerous personal interviews with them.
