IBSC-NYSAIS Conference. Educating Boys 2016

Join NYSAIS and IBSC members to explore, learn, and share around connecting with and teaching boys in our schools. This event is for all educators who work with boys at all educational levels.

The day will begin with a keynote by Dr. Victoria Marsick on what master teachers tell us they do to connect with boys. Her recent research was supported by the International Boys’ Schools Coalition, focusing on Master Teaching in boys’ schools. Dr. Marsick will highlight findings from three categories:

-how teachers connect with boys to understand and teach them

-how teachers perform in ways that best connect boys to learning and development

-how teachers develop and use situational judgement to make good choices in the midst of their teaching and developmental work with boys.

Following Dr. Marsick’s remarks, time will be devoted to workshops presented by teachers and administrators on working effectively with boys. View the workshops here

The day will culminate with Carlos Andrés Gómez as he walks participants through Reimagining Modern Manhood.  Through storytelling, audience engagement, and spoken word, Mr. Gómez will explore what it means to be a man in a world where masculinity is often narrowly defined.

Following his keynote, a Town Hall will conclude with Mr. Gómez as we think through what masculinity means and how we can educate and support boys.
